After spending time apart in a long-distance relationship between Indonesia and Australia, Ria and King finally celebrated their wedding surrounded by the people closest to them at Phalosa Villa Bali. A day before their wedding, the couple took us on a relaxed photo tour around Nusa Dua and Melasti Beach. We started the session in Nusa Dua with Ria and King wearing their wedding attire, capturing intimate portraits and natural moments as they enjoyed their time together. As the afternoon moved toward sunset, they changed into casual outfits and continued the session at Melasti Beach. It had been a while since my team and I covered the intimate elopement like this. This wedding was only attended by closest people of the bride and groom. Lizzy the beautiful bride, which was only accompanied by one bridesmaid, seemed busy with her dressers, meanwhile in the different part of the villa, the main room, Sean the groom was cheerfully chatting with his friends and family. The chit-chat and jokes they had made the big room seemed small. The marriage vows were to be said by the sunset, where the weather was expected to be a little bit cooler and the venue which took place on the top of a beach cliff, got the nice breeze from the ocean.  Yet I could see that the groom was nervous and cold-sweated because his shirt was wet, or was it because of the weather? :) Under the blue sky, with the caresses of the wind, and the sound of rolling waves crashed onto the rocks, the vows of the two children of men were finally said. After being together for eight years, finally they decided to get married, was quite some time of relationship wasn't it? Four days after their wedding in  Kuala Lumpur, Jillian and Shai flew to Bali for the honeymoon and having a romantic post wedding photo session. They brought the dress they wore on their wedding day. Perfect!  That afternoon photo session was  done at a villa in Ubud, surrounded by the rice fields and local village houses. We didn't go too far to get  a good landscape and charming ornaments as photo backgrounds, we only had to do a little walk down the villa area and village roads. They all looked so authentically stunning and just perfect! Lucky me.

Sanjaya and Merti had the traditional Balinese wedding in Nusa Penida Island, the homeland of the groom. Five days prior, the groom's family came to the bride's home in Antiga - Karangasem to propose Sanjaya's soulmate. This proposal moment was also for the engagement. For two days my team and I covered Sanjaya and Merti' s traditional Balinese wedding ceremony in Nusa Penida. Day one, they had the traditional ceremony ritual which was called Mejaya-jaya or some people called it Mawidi-widana, led by a Peranda (Bali Hindu Priest). This ritual took almost all day with all the Balinese ornaments like janur (young coconut leaf decoration), penjor (curved bamboo decoration) and banten (offerings) that were seen in every corner of the house.  These little things make the house looked so merry!   The day after, they held the reception. The bride and groom wore the authentic Balinese traditional outfit, they looked graceful and glow with such charisma.  ...

Do you have plan to do elopement / wedding at a waterfall? Would you like to do it in Bali? All that is so possible, Bali has several beautiful waterfalls to make your dreams come true. Most waterfalls here have easy access, thus, reaching the spot won't drain your energy. Some of the falls are Tegenungan / Blangsinga, Kanto Lampo, Banyumala, Tibumana, Gitgit, Munduk and Melanting.  This photo session was done at Batu Lantang in Petang, this beautiful waterfall can be reached within an hour drive from Denpasar. Still very few visitors to this waterfall, and the trek was quite easy, you would see also some local houses with their natural lush gardens.  You've got time and still in Bali? Go visit it! 

This time was one of several times that I covered a couple of lovebirds who wanted to get married in Balinese blessing traditional ceremony wedding. A very intimate afternoon at sculpture garden Alila Ubud, Bali. It was very interesting. Frangipani and hydrangea flowers made the hall way to the wedding venue look amazingly pretty. The altar and the smoke of incense hazing through the stack of offerings, which they decorate fruits and the fresh fragrance flowers. These flowers and the colorful fruits beautify the altar while the Priest was busy reciting the mantra and he shook the chime every once in a while. It was a very holy and beautiful wedding. The ceremony didn't last very long, but Dominic and Emilia kept smiling happily and as if it never disappeared from their faces. After 18 days they took me for a travel around Turkey, starting from Istanbul , Pamukkale , and ended up in Cappadocia for a prewedding photo sessions, a month later they had their wedding at Segara Village Sanur, Bali. It was a perfect place to have an intimate garden wedding with a very beautiful Sanur beach as background view. It was raining that day from early afternoon, I was very worried that the event wouldn't go well as it should. But the bride and groom didn't seem to worry about the weather at all. Few moments later, just like a miracle the rain stopped just right when the ceremony was about to begin, and didn't rain for the rest of the evening. It's been a while since I did wedding photo shots although Bali is famous as one of the most favorite wedding destinations. It is a dream and it has always been on the list for those couples to be able to get married in "Island of the Gods" Bali. I often have reservations for honeymoon, family photos and other holiday themes. I guess that's where my luck is although I'd like to explore more and shoot weddings and pre-weddings to many of world's favorite destinations. Which photographer that would not want that? Zuzana and Tom came from Slovakia, at the end of last September visited Indonesia, had a wedding in Bali and then continued to have the honeymoon in Lombok a few days afterwards. They chose Balangan Beach to commemorate their beautiful moment, on the top of the tall vertical arid cliff that's curving to the vast ocean where down below the waves crushing the rocks powerfully, as the fishermen went home with their boats, as the sun began to hide in the horizon, with warm ocean breeze that blowed, it's there where their sacred vow was said, a promise to be together forever... There are many new things I learn as I often taking pictures of a wedding especially the traditional wedding processions, such as Balinese tradition, Javanese tradition and Chinese tradition like what Sudianto and Suryani had for example. Although there was a modern touch, the culture of their ancestor was still being carried. From the moment of fetching the bride whereas the groom would be getting some pranks, to the tea ceremony (tea pai), it was more like getting to know each other's families better. Many attributes or symbolic processions that if you try to discover they have special meaning to them, and that's all very interesting to be captured. Sudianto lived in Bali and Suryani was originally from Bangka, they chose Bali as their place to hold their wedding. I was so excited to cover the Imelda and Glenn´s wedding in city of Ambon, Maluku. Besides it was for my job to capture a wedding, I did a little trip for few days around the city to see Ambon in closer look, oh how I love traveling. The flight took about 7 hours and had to make two time transits in Jakarta and Makassar before reaching Ambon, the city that´s called City of Music but it is more well known by Ambon Manise which means The Sweet Ambon.  Imee and Glenn were Ambonese but they worked in Jakarta and they were a very humble couple. Imee´s family, de Lima, me very friendly and warm and meeting with Imee´s big family made me know a bit more about Ambon. All Imee´s grandmother, aunties and uncles told me alot of things about Ambon, I loved listening to their stories. I began to like this city. About the wedding, what can I say, it was perfect! They held the wedding reception at Villa Amarterra, Nusa Dua. Other than holiday or honeymoon destination, Bali is the most favorite place to hold a  wedding in Indonesia. The reception venue was by the poolside, I could see decorations everywhere, there were pictures of their childhood to pre marriage moments along the entrance pathways.  White nuance became the main theme color on every detail of the venue but as for the bridesmaids' dresses and the best man's neckties, they chose orange for combination. This is the second phase of the Traditional Balinese wedding of Ngurah and Dewi. Eight o'clock in the morning I was already at the Ngurah's home in Klungkung. Just like any other Balinese wedding ceremony, Ngurah's house was decorated with Balinese specific ornaments of coconut leaves, very lovely and merry. Before the ceremony was held ,they first had Mepandes ceremony or dental filing for Ayu, Ngurah's little sister.  Mepandes is one of the ceremonies to indicate self-maturity or passing the puberty. The purpose of dental filing is to eliminate bad characters that exist in every human.  Every Balinese Hindu teenager will have this Mepandes Ceremony. This wedding ceremony will be conducted by two ceremony leaders called Pemangku and Pandita (Ida Pedanda). Each of them has the same duties but different worship.
